Being healthy has changed my life in so many ways. Here are 7 ways:

1. Self Esteem

Since the first day, I realize I was losing weight I looked at myself in a new light. I feel good mentally, and physically. I have become a much more positive person. Before I started my journey, I frequently drowned in “comfort food”. My favorites are pizza, cookies, and chips. The more I was depressed the more food I found myself eating.

2. Longer Life span

Even though I ate a lot of unhealthy food I still had normal blood pressure which surprised me and my doctor. because I was young when I was doing it, but I am sure if I kept it up my blood pressure would be through the roof.

3. Keeps money in my pocket

Years ago I worked at a grocery store which is a gold mine for someone who buys chips and crap every day. I can’t tell you how much money I spent buying my dinner all I know is that I spent way more than I would have liked. When I ate healthy, I switched to buying healthy foods which can be even more expensive. I learned about meal prepping which is easy and a money saver. Looking back at my expenses, the money spent buying food for dinner could also buy me groceries that feed me for weeks. I eat a lot, so buying 2 meals at a restaurant really isn’t ideal for me consistently.

4. Inserted me into a lifelong journey

Endless Road

In the beginning, I told myself that I will lose this amount of weight (don’t remember the actual amount).  I gave myself a year to get fit and now I am coming up on 5 years with no end in sight. Every day is a new obstacle, and it never gets boring. When I finally decided to set a goal to lose 80 pounds and accomplished it, I set a new goal for myself.

5. Reduces stress

As I said earlier, whenever I was in a bad mood or just depressed I would drive to the store and pick up unhealthy foods. It was detrimental to my health. A quick fix but more strain on my body. Now when I’m upset about something I will either drive to the gym and workout. I started hot yoga which helped me relieve stress.

6. I’ve become a role model

It’s come to where the people who didn’t think I could do it now look at me as inspiration. At the gym, I get asked many health and fitness questions. I have a friend who is a personal trainer, and he asks about my fitness routine and my diet. When I started, I didn’t expect to become this deep into fitness but now I love helping others on their fitness journey. Hearing people thank me for my advice makes me happy because I didn’t have someone, I can talk to for fitness advice. Plus, who doesn’t love to give back? Too bad I can’t use advice as a charitable tax credit… Anyway, I feel entirely new respect when I go to the gym.

7. More Productive

Everything in my life I have switched up without giving too much thought. My weekends used to include me sitting around playing video games, drink and smoking with friends. Now during the weekend I’m out checking out a new spot, hiking and/or biking. Not that I don’t enjoy playing the Xbox or drinking with friends, but the time spent doing those things has decreased. I used to stand and wait on elevators just to go up or down one floor. Unless I’m just exhausted my instinct is to take the stairs. Why waste time waiting for an elevator plus I can get my steps in if I’m wearing my Apple Watch?
